When You Know You’re Out of Balance... But Don’t Know How to Change It

I think most of us know the feeling. You’re tired, but you keep pushing. Your mind is full, but you keep adding more to the list. You feel scattered, overwhelmed or unable to focus. Maybe you’re more emotional than usual, easily irritated, disconnected from yourself, or simply feel like you’re fighting against life rather than flowing with it.

These can all be signs that you’ve tipped out of balance. And it’s incredibly easy to do.

Trust me, I know this one well. I’ve lived with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome at different times throughout my adult life, and it has taught me a lot about what happens when we continually push ourselves beyond our own limits.

Our bodies are actually incredibly good at communicating with us when something isn’t right. The problem is, many of us have become incredibly good at ignoring them.

We feel exhausted, but we push through. We notice we’re not sleeping properly, but carry on. We feel tense, overwhelmed, irritable or unable to concentrate, but tell ourselves we just need to get through this week. We override the little signals because there is always something that needs doing.

Until sometimes, the body makes it much harder to ignore.

Imbalance can happen when we’ve been focusing too much of our energy in one area of our life. It might be work, family, other people, money, our worries, or simply the never-ending list of things that need doing. And when we’re already out of balance, we’re often more likely to keep doing the very things that got us there. We say yes when we really need to say no. We push through when our body is asking us to stop. We spend more time in our heads, overthinking and worrying. We become more reactive, less patient and find it harder to focus or make clear decisions. We can lose touch with the things that normally make us feel like ourselves.

So how do you start bringing yourself back into balance?

Start small.

Chakra balancing is one of the places I like to begin. Our chakras work together as an energetic system, and when we’ve become depleted, stagnant or overly focused in one area, balancing the chakras can help bring a sense of flow back through the body. You can experience this through an in-person crystal healing session, but you can also begin at home with something as simple as a guided chakra balancing meditation.

Then there’s grounding, which I honestly believe is one of the most important practices we can bring into everyday life. So many of us spend a huge amount of time in our heads, thinking, planning, worrying, scrolling and anticipating what comes next. Grounding is about bringing yourself back down into your body and into the present moment. Put your feet on the earth. Go outside. Take a walk. Breathe. Hold a grounding crystal. Even five minutes of consciously bringing yourself back into the here and now can make a difference.

And then take an honest look at what’s already on your plate.

Instead of asking yourself, “What else do I need to do to feel better?” try asking, “What could I NOT do?”

What could you say no to today? What can wait? What are you carrying because you feel you should, rather than because you genuinely need to? Sometimes one small no today can create a surprisingly big amount of space tomorrow.

And of course, there are crystals that I love working with when life feels out of balance. Smoky Quartz is one of my favourites for grounding and bringing scattered energy back down into the body. Hematite has a beautiful stabilising quality when you need to feel centred, steady and anchored. And Green Aventurine brings a softer, heart-centred energy of harmony and balance, particularly when you’ve been giving too much of yourself and need to bring some of that energy back to you.

Balance doesn’t mean having every area of your life perfectly under control. Sometimes it’s simply recognising that something has been taking too much of you, listening to what your body has been trying to tell you, and choosing one small thing you can do today to begin bringing yourself back. 🖤
